Anjali Sage: Summertime Fun

Don't tell the perfectionist inside of me! I'm gonna try for another post ~ just dash it off quickly and see if it doesn't slip in unnoticed by that side of me who wishes I did it more regularly but doesn't want to hope for such.

Here are a few photos from our daily life here over the summer, and also from a visit with family at Shaker Village.

Our life feels quite chaotic with all the construction and transition that has been happening for who-knows-how-long. But there are some activities that we do regularly, and some routine we've developed after living here at the Urban Indigenous house on North Limestone for going on *six months!* (is that right?!)

Anjali and I often make it to the farmers' market which happens just a few blocks from our house on Saturdays. I get a delicious omelette made of local ingredients while she plays and socializes. Then we browse. We check to see what fruit is local and ripe, and get Anjali some locally-made string cheese.

We have art dates at least once a week. Lately she has been loving doing sidewalk art at Third Street Stuff.

We also get together with friends pretty often for playdates. We have gotten to be close with a family who moved to Lexington about the same time as we did
~ the Burns family. Mama Messa and I have so much in common, and Anjali loves playing with Rama, 6, and Oliver, 4(and 3/4). Toddler girl Ria loves trying to keep up with the big kids. :) And the Burks family is also close to our hearts. Troy and I both are best friends with Joshua and Jamie, and Solomon, 6, is Anjali's closest friend here in Lexington.

Anjali is also fortunate enough to get to spend frequent time with our awesome housemates, especially sweet Jessi. Mommy gets to attend yoga classes and such ~ even when Papi is working! And Anjali gets to have the influence and friendship of other adults besides Mommy and Papi. It's a win-win! They have their own art dates and lady time. This past Sunday while I went to a long yoga workshop, Anjali went with Jessi on a brunch date (photo with Jessi on their brunch date ~ kerchiefed mermaid sisters, unite!), and beyond! We're so thankful.

Anjali and I attended our first performance together at the Lexington Children's Theatre ~ where I worked as an actress and as a costume-maker. We saw Shrek the Musical. It was thrilling.

Lately Anjali has been prolific in the drawing department. She draws pages and pages of art daily! She has expanded into scenes of several figures, and sometimes props and decorations. Her grandest yet was a wedding between a mermaid and a pirate, with swords and wild animals and trees in the background. Always her most intent focus is on the style and decoration of the dresses and styles of hair. ;)

We are pleased to announce the arrival of our new housemate ~ Pep the dog. He is so proud and enthusiastic to keep watch over the property. He is also a zealous chicken-herder. You can tell it's in his blood. He has even caught a couple chickens who got out of their pen ~ and didn't harm them (at least by the time we caught up with him; all you can ask of a dog, I think). He has a huge heart and is so sweet.

Granddad and Kathy came to visit last week. We had a little mini-retreat, lodging and spending several days at Shaker Village. We got to attend several Shaker musical performances, watch the craftspeople do their thing, visit the barnyard animals, take a boat ride down the Kentucky River, and eat the delicious down-home cooking there. Nanna came on the last day of their visit, too. It was great to see them and also so tranquil and relaxing to stay at Shaker Village.
