There were two themes this week for Anjali: rolling over, and sleep. She rolled over last week, and has been working at doing it again ever since. If she is lying horizontal ~ or even close, she is attempting to roll. She cocks her head back over one shoulder, and begins the wiggling. If she wakes up from nursing, she's attempting to roll. If we lay her down to change her diaper or her clothes, she's cocking that head back immediately and wiggle wiggle wiggle. I call it her "roly-poly bug," and put her on a soft flat surface several times throughout the day, so she can practice her roly-poly bug for a while. She gets really worked up and irritated about it, so much so that by the end she is almost crying, and I end up picking her up to console her. But many times, after she's taken a break for a few minutes with Mommy, she wants at it again ~ arching her back and throwing her head back. She works hard! And she has surprising amounts of energy to dedicate to it.  When she does make it over, I'm not sure she really knows what to do, but she is determined to get there!

And then there's the sleep. A couple nights this week, Anjali had a crying session the likes of which we can't remember her having since she was three weeks old. It really seems as if some kind of switch gets flipped, and she is inconsolable, red in the face with eyes closed, and tight-fisted, screaming. Several nights in a row, she would start to be cranky in the late afternoon/early evening, and if she didn't fall into a deep sleep, that switch would get flipped and she would be wailing. Since it happened a few evenings, Troy and I have kind of been on eggshells about accidentally waking her up from any nap, and have made sure that she gets to sleep at night as soon as she shows signs of needing it. The fact that these crying sessions seem so irregular helps me realize how much she has grown up since those first few weeks. But it also helps me remember that, even though she feels so grown up to me, she is still a very young baby.

This week if there were any fabric nearby, such as her shirt, or a blanket, she would have some firmly in her hand, and in her mouth. She has also made friends with a poofy yarn tassel in the craft area upstairs. But she still likes her old buddy, hand, best of all. One of my friends asked me yesterday if her personality was developing into something I could describe. Thinking on it overnight, I say that Anjali is bubbly, talkative, energetic, and a girl who definitely knows what she wants and speaks up about it. Oh! I can't forget to report that she saw the baby in the mirror this week!! She had seen the mommy in the mirror for a while, but now ~ that fascinating baby. She doesn't touch the mirror, but gets excited looking ~ moving her arms and legs and cooing with wide eyes. It's fun.

thanks to Papi and his "Hard Bein' a Baby" song, sound asleep after one of her 3-week-old sessions.
