Grandparents' Visit

Papa, Mamaw, and Nanna came to visit!
Papi kept everyone busy on a project, as usual. This time: the bamboo fence in the backyard. With everyone's help, it was finished and beautiful!
We all headed to San Francisco for the big Saturday Farmers' Market at the Ferry Building. Then we actually took the ferry back across the bay - with a long walk and BART ride at the end! It was a perfectly clear, sunny, still, and warm day to view the city from a boat.

On another day we went to Tilden Park, at the top of the Berkeley hills, and visited the Little Farm there. We saw chickens and a very handsome rooster, ducks, and the biggest goose any of us had ever seen. Turkeys, rabbits, goats, cows, and a flock of sheep - all black, including two rams with curled horns. The sheep were eager to visit with us and have their thick wool scratched.

After they closed the farm for the day, we stopped at a little playground where Anjali got to play in a sandbox alongside several older children. She played quietly with a cup in the sand as she listened and watched them, enthralled.
Throughout the week, we went out for some yummy meals, and had a bunch of good food at home.

A highlight of this visit is that Anjali was able to say the grandparents' names. Very exciting for a grandparent.
Baba - Papa
Momohw - Mamaw
Nyah-Nyah - Nanna
(also, Aht'eh - Austin)
She anticipated their arrival everyday, and would point toward the door where she expected to see them.
The day after they all flew back home, we were in the back yard. Anjali pointed up to the door and said, "Baba. Momohw." The next day, inside, she went to the front door, pointed, and said, "Momohw." We tried to explain that they had gone bye-bye. Her lower lip turned down and a tear came from her eye as she said, "Momohw!!" This melted us both with sadness! Even now, weeks later, we were walking downstairs to Skype with Nanna, and I told her we were going to talk with Nanna. She pointed to the front door and said, "Nyah-Nyah."
I've been working on this post bit-by-bit for weeks it seems, and Anjali is still talking about her grandparents. We look forward to the next big visit! :-)
