We went to South Georgia for a special get-together with family and friends where Papa grew up. Thanksgiving was an all-day event ~ there was a pig roast, with dee-licious pulled pork, smoked ribs, sausage-making, plus all kinds of homemade desserts, and cracklin'-making after the meal. Many friendly folks came, with children and several babies toddling around, on a gorgeous and pleasant day. We got to tour another relative, Cousin Jonathan's, farm that had horses, a donkey, and a herd of cattle with calves. The next day we went to a different nearby farm where they hand-made syrup from sugarcane. Then we hiked through the family property, where Papa, Aunt Laura Mell and Uncle Van grew up. Anjali's favorite kid buddy was her cousin Cayden. She also enjoyed playing with the toys in Aunt Lolly's toy cabinet. When we got back to Marietta, Papi led everyone in a project that turned out to be an all-day event: filtering the lard that came from the cracklin' making. Using coffee filters, we filtered almost four gallons of lard into Mason jars! The resulting lard is worth it: creamy and mild-smelling.
The last day in Marietta, we went to a nearby park where the playgrounds were teeming with children, and Anjali got to play and gawk amongst the big(ger) kids.
The flights there and back were a mix of napping and activity, with walking whenever and wherever possible.
It was a fun, yummy, and memorable trip for everyone.

Smiling at the person behind us on the plane.

Cayden (can you see the blur that is their hands playing between them?).
